papain – it’s all in the payapa enzyme

The papaya fruit contains an amazing proteolytic enzyme called papain. These types of enzymes break down in to smaller protein fragements called peptides and amino acids. Now if you’re a skincare addict you’ll know all about peptides and amino acids – helping repair the skin, building collagen and also provide pretty powerful antioxidant capabilities.

So what about dental care? In dental care papain can help brighten teeth by removing stains and excess plaque. Whilst it’s also known to be quite a powerful addition to toothpaste, its actually very gentle on dental sensitivities and has been known to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling.

We’ve used it in our Brightening Antioxidant Toothpaste for all of these reasons. We wanted something that was high in antioxidants to compliment the aloe vera leaf juice, cranberry extract as well as the soothing capabilities of tea tree and peppermint.

An all round do gooder with credentials to back up it’s claims. Just perfect for our dental care.
